                             Color 101

Color is light’s component. The human perception of color is subjective. It is based in our experiences. The colors we see in images are created with different characteristics according to the media (canvas, paper, oil paints ,watercolor, acrylic paints, inks, electronic equipment ) . We have different perception of color, when we see an image on a computer screen, or when we see the image on paper.

On a video monitor the image is shown to us in pixels per inch (ppi), the basic colors are: red, green and blue (additive colors). The light is coming from the back of the screen to our eyes directly. The range of colors for screens are larger than the range of colors for paper.

On paper from a computer printer, the image is shown to us in dots per inch (dpi), the basic colors are cyan ,magenta and yellow (Subtractive colors). The light is reflected from the paper. So, the colors come to our eyes indirectly.
